CyanogenMod 4.2
CyanogenMod 4.2 Installation Guide
CyanogenMod 4.2 is no longer supported since the release of CyanogenMod 5
Prerequisites
The device will needed to be already rooted, have a custom Recovery Image installed & update the radio in order to flash CycanogenMod 4.2. If not, please see the following corresponding guide to the device:
- for the HTC Dream/T-Mobile G1, see the HTC Dream instructions;
- for the Rogers Dream, see the Rogers Dream instructions;

Flashing CyanogenMod 4.2
- Download the Android 1.6 Base Image, CyanogenMod 4.2 & corresponding EBI1 kernel (if needed):
- Android 1.6 Base Image: Download; Mirror1

- md5:
- CyanogenMod 4.2: available on the Latest Version page
- EBI1 kernel (needed for the Rogers Dream & the HTC Magic (32A)): available on the Latest Version page
- Android 1.6 Base Image: Download; Mirror1
- Plug in the device via USB cable and mount the SD card.
- Copy the update.zip to the root of the SD card (NOT into any folders on the SD card).
- Unplug the device from the USB cable.
- Power off the device and then power it back on while holding the Home button.
- Using the trackball, select Wipe, followed by Wipe data/factory reset. You can also get to the Wipe option by pressing Alt-W on the keyboard.
- Once the wipe is complete, go back to home recovery page.
- Select Flash zip from sdcard. You can also get to the Flash zip from sdcard option by pressing Alt-A on the keyboard.
- Select DRC83_base_defanged.zip.
- Once again, select Flash zip from sdcard.
- Select the CyanogenMod 4.2 update.zip.
- Once the installation has finished, select the Reboot system now option. Now the device should boot into CyanogenMod 4.2! Enjoy!
Additional Optional Options
Apps2SD
Apps2SD moves your apps to the SD card, freeing up more room on your phone. As of 4.2.x, this is not necessary for CyanogenMod to work, but is necessary if you want Apps2SD.
For full instructions, see Apps2SD.
Audio Resources
CyanogenMod only includes a few ringtones for space considerations. This file has many, many more.
- Download the optional Audio Resources: Download
- md5:
6cbefb897e2fb3b954d19c692d5c6966
- md5:
- Unzip contents to root of SD Card.
- The phone will automatically recognize the audio files (or it should after an sdcard mount/unmount; you can manually force the media scanner with the dev tools app included in CyanogenMod, by tapping 'Media Scanner').
Troubleshooting
- If you don't use the defanged base (e.g. used the ADP1 1.6 'official' from HTC) and let the HTC recovery boot before flashing CyanogenMod 4.2, it will attempt (and probably succeed) to replace the custom Recovery Image with the default HTC ADP1 recovery. You'd see /!\ when booting with home held down. Of course, HTC doesn't let you install custom ROMs, so you'll have to get the custom recovery back. See RE-recovery-img if this happens. This is not an issue with the 'defanged' DRC83 base, which doesn't have the recovery.img (or boot or radio).
